Davidson Cottage is in the heart of the Coonawarra wine region, a perfect rendezvous location between Adelaide and Melbourne. It is in walking distance to shops, cafes, hotels, restaurants, and conveniently located for Limestone Coast day trips - beaches, caves, Robe, Beachport, and Mount Gambier?s Blue Lake are all an easy drive away. The cottage, circa 1860, was built on land purchased from Mary MacKillop?s uncle Alexander Cameron. It was made with pit sawn timber and a shingle roof. In the 1890?s the cottage was leased by the Anglican Church for use as Rectory. The building was purchased and restored by the Penola branch of the National Trust in 1987. The cottage was recently refurbished and officially opened in October 2009. Enjoy your own pilgrimage to the nearby Mary MacKillop Centre and learn all about where it all began for Australia?s first saint....
