The Summit Rainforest Retreat is located in the Cairns Highlands, also known as the Atherton Tablelands, in Far North Queensland, Australia. Located one hours drive south west from Cairns, nestled amongst ''Mabi'' rainforest and the Halloran's Hill Environmental Park. At 750 metres above sea level, it's a naturally air conditioned region of the Tropics. The Summit Rainforest Retreat is at the very peak of Halloran's Hill, Atherton's highest point. It is situated on the lip of an extinct volcano. The crater of this volcano has a dense Mabi Rainforest covering, this habitat is critically endangered and only 2 per cent remains on the Atherton Tablelands. Mabi, is the local indigenous word for the threatened Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo, they have had a number of sightings. Red legged pademelons, wallabies, bandicoots and possums are significantly easier to spot. John and Helen, (the owners), have planted 3000 mabi trees on the 2 Ha property, to extend this habitat. The huge deck of The Summit overlooks the Townships valley, it is a panoramic and breathtaking view. All this nature, but still only 1.7 kilometres from the main street of Atherton with all the facilities that it provides.
