The Macleay River Museum is an award winning museum of applied local history with a Settlers Cottage and art show, housed in the cultural centre designed by world-renowned architect, Glen Murcutt. The museum is also the home of the Angus McNeil Glass Negative.
The museum showcases Aboriginal artefacts, colonial history from the 1830s, the cedar and timber industries, farm machinery and tools, river transport, period clothing, servicemen, historical publications and photos of Kempsey district.
The Research Department. There is an extensive collection of local history and family files in the library and record room. This service is available for anyone wishing to research local families, locations and topics.
